Customize Executives

The Customize Executives feature allows the user to build a list of companies and then choose executives for display in Comparables table. From the Comparables table, click the Customize Executives button and follow Step 1 and 2 described below:

To Build a List of Companies (Step 1)

1.Create a list of companies using one of these three options:

a.Change the criteria used to filter the list of companies displayed in the table:

Select an industry using Browse Industries (under Adjustments to Compensation Analyses).

Adjust the minimum and maximum Total Revenue settings by sliding the grey and white bars, respectively, on the number line.  (Please note: Organization size for most industries is defined in terms of annual Revenue.  For some industries, the organization size is defined in terms of Assets, Fiscal Year Budget, or # of Employees.  The Total Revenue slider will be labeled accordingly.)   (See note below.)

Click the Add Criteria button to read definitions of the additional filters available: Total Revenue, Total Assets, Net Income, Market Cap, Stockholder Equity, Stock Price, TSR 1 Year, TSR 3 Year, and EPS.  Click Add to add one of these additional filter to the criteria list (up to three filters can be selected, in addition to the revenue slider).  Click Cancel to exit the Add Criteria window without selecting an additional filter.

b.Scroll to the bottom of the table and double-click on the last row to search through a list of all U.S. public companies and select an individual company to add to the table.

c.Load a list of companies that was previously saved in Step 1 by selecting a file name from the drop-down menu under Select Saved List.

2.Click the Market Cap Graph button to view a graph of market capitalization by size (e.g., revenue). Place your cursor over a dot on the market cap graph to display the company name and market capitalization value.

3.Select "Latest" (the default) or a specific year in the drop-down menu next to Filing Year (see note below).

4.When your list of companies is complete, click on the Step 2 OR Next button to choose executives.

Please note: The list of companies displayed in Step 1 includes those companies with an organization size (e.g., revenue) inside the limits set on the range slider (plus any other filters added via the Add Criteria button) and matches the comparables companies list displayed under Refine List in the Survey & Proxy Analyses screen. Changing the minimum or maximum organization size using the range slider only affects the number of companies in the list; it does not affect the organization size selected in the Salary Adjustments dialog or the dots displayed on the graph.  Changing the organization size in Salary Adjustments impacts two things: (1) it modifies what is shown in the graph, and (2) it adjusts the range slider by setting the end points to 50% below and 50% above the organization size selected in Salary Adjustments.  Changing the organization size in Salary Adjustments only affects the Step 1 company list so far as it modifies the minimum and maximum settings in the revenue slider.

Also note: The Filing Year displayed will be the “Latest” unless a specific year is selected.  When the “Latest” year is used, the year of data shown in the Step 1 table is set to the year of compensation data for that company's graph dot as shown in the Survey & Proxy Analyses tab — not the salary planning date.  This provides consistency between the analyses performed on the Survey & Proxy Analyses tab and the Comparables tab.  The "Latest" date displayed may vary by company since there is a slight lag in data collection and analysis, and companies may define the “end of the year” differently.  When a specific year is selected instead of the “Latest,” then all companies will display the same year of data. When you change the Filing Year, the companies listed in the Step 1 table do not change.  It simply shows the selected year for those companies that are currently shown in the table.  If you want to view a year other than the "Latest" for each company, select the year first and then update the revenue slider or industry (see Step 1a above).

To Choose Executives (Step 2)

1.In Step 2, build a list of executives using one of these two options:

a. Select executives by checking the box(es) next to one or more titles in the Position (as disclosed in filing) list OR the box next to Directors.

b. Check the box in the Semantic Search field to search for executives titles containing particular text.  Then, enter search terms in the "title containing this text" field and click Submit.

2.Click the Prev button to return to Step 1, if needed.

3.When your list of executives is complete, click the Finish button to return to the Comparables table.
