QUESTION: My employee says that housing is much more expensive in the Base City or Destination City than the Geographic Assessor reports.
ERI's research staff is available to verify home prices. The audit process looks at the entire geographic area and may take up to two weeks. Please e-mail the cities in question, including the square footage and employee's indication of what housing costs s/he is finding.
In all cases where employees are questioning home sales prices, we recommend that management consult with local realtors in both the Base City and Destination City to obtain a "second opinion." Often, two short conversations will help you to ascertain whether or not the employee is attempting to "buy up" in the Destination City or whether s/he is indicating prices for housing that is truly comparable to the housing s/he is leaving.
